It can also be intimidating it you are unsure of how to get started. Today we gonna know about What is HDR, its working and uses in different cases that at end will make you to take a brilliant photo. Let’s learn it.
How it works?
HDR, as its name implies, is a feature that add more dynamic range to photos. Here dynamic range is the ratio of light to dark in photos. It uses three photos instead of one photo. These photos are taken in different exposures. In image editing software, you can use them to highlight the best parts of each photo.
In HDR mode, your phone does all the work for you. You just need to snap your picture and it will spit out one regular and one HDR photo. In this mode, result looks more like what your eyes see, rather that what camera does. It’s actually takes three photos, this is why, when you turn HDR mode on, it takes time to click photos.
When to use HDR mode?
As I already said that HDR mode is designed to take better photos, especially in some situations. Let’s us know them.
- Low light and backlit scenes: May be you have this problem. When your scene has too much backlight then your photo looks a little dark. So to remove this darkness, this mode is used. It can brighten the foreground without removing the back lit portions of your photo.
- Portraits in Sunlight: As we all know lighting is the most important aspect in photography. But too much light on someone’s face like sunlight can cause dark shadows, bright glare and much more. But this problem can be solved by this mode. It can even all that shadow and glare and make your photo look better.
- Landscapes: If there is lot of contrast between the sky and land, which we usually find in landscapes photography, it makes difficult for camera to click a good photo. It can capture both details and give a good photo.
Where not to use HDR?
- Photos with movement : Never use HDR mode to click pictures of a moving subject. It is more likely to blur your photo. As I already told you HDR takes three pictures instead of one, so if your subject moves between any two shots, your final result will comes out to worse.
- High Contrast scenario : Some photos look better with stark contrast between dark and light parts of the photo. If you have a dark shadow you want to highlight, It will make this less intense, resulting in a less interesting photo.
